Andes Manta returns!
Have the high airplane ticket prices taken a bite out of your travel budget, and you are staying close to home this year? The LuCille Tack Center in Spencer, Wisconsin is offering you the chance to experience the adventure and wonder of South American culture without leaving your backyard by bringing in Andes Manta, a musical group straight from the heart of the Andes.
Andes Manta consists of four brothers who are native to the Ecuadorian Andes, where they grew up learning the music, history, and folklore of the region. Now they travel throughout North America, sharing their culture with audiences everywhere. The songs range from vibrant and upbeat traditional tunes to lyrical and haunting melodies. They play more than 35 hand-made traditional instruments, ranging from guitars to flutes to six-foot long panpipes.
For those who prefer more hands-on adventures, there is an optional panpipe workshop before the show. This workshop will offer you the opportunity to build your own set of panpipes, learn to play them, and perform on stage with Andes Manta during the concert. All materials and pre-tuned pipes will be provided. The workshop costs $10 and will be held in the Spencer High School Commons at 5 p.m.
Concert is Friday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. Reserved tickets cost $10 for adults and $6 for youth

Please allow me to introduce myself!
My name is Claire Schiller and I am the new chairperson for the Publicity Committee for The LuCille Tack Center for the Arts. My family has been involved with The Tack Center from the very beginning. My three brothers and myself were present for the groundbreaking ceremony and have had the great pleasure of performing and displaying our art at The LuCille Tack Center. It has been a wonderful gift to our community and a pleasure for my family to enjoy.
I graduated from Spencer High School in 2000. During high school I was very active in band and choir. I enjoyed performing with the drama club my sophomore year of high school and especially enjoyed when the music department held their annual "Cabaret" variety shows.
My parents, Ron and Marcia Draeger, have also been very involved with The LuCille Tack Center for the Arts. They have volunteered for nearly 13 years with my mom as the Treasurer of the Board and my dad helping with lights and sound during some of the shows. Their love for the arts and for volunteering has inspired me to join in!
One of the very special things about The LuCille Tack Center for the Arts is the amazing way it can bring people together. A small village has never seen such a diverse array of performers! I remember shows with musicians from Russia, Turkey and South America. We have had the opportunity to enjoy the talent of pianists, violinists, storytellers and comedians alike.
I was given a very special opportunity at a young age when my brother and I were asked to perform as part of the grand opening for The LuCille Tack Center. A walk around town led Spencer residents past many performers including jugglers, singers and guitar players. 10 years later at the Anniversary Celebration I was asked again to perform and I gladly accepted. My husband Dan joined in and we had a very memorable day. Dan, the web designer for The Tack Center, and I have had the opportunity to work together helping out and I am very glad to have brought The Tack Center from my family in Spencer to my new family. I hope in the future my children will be able to experience the art and the music that fills our lives with joy.

The theatre...
When The LuCille Tack Center for the Arts was in its infancy, a very special group of people had a dream. They made it the mission of the Center "To provide an environment that encourages a variety of opportunities to enlighten, enrich and develop artistic growth for community members of all ages." Over ten years later they have held fast to that mission and have touched many lives in the community by giving them the opportunity to release their artistic energy in plays and musicals presented by the LuCille Tack Center. The young and the old alike are given the opportunity to perform in the "Our Front Porch Series" which is a component of the Tack Center's performance season that showcases local talent in many different forms.
The Tack Center has presented many community-cast shows including the annual event, Missoula Children's Theatre. Classic children's tales have been brought to life by local children including Cinderella, Robin Hood, and Alice in Wonderland. This season the timeless tale of Red Riding Hood will be presented in two shows on April 18, 2009. Missoula Children's Theatre provides fun for the whole family and is a great way to encourage young children to get involved in positive after-school activities. Actor Pierce Brosnan once said "Acting allows me to explore new worlds, to discover characters by delving into their lives, and ultimately to become someone else entirely." Giving a child the opportunity to use their imagination and release creative energy leaves the child, and the parents happy.
The LuCille Tack Center doesn't want to leave the adults out of the fun, so they host an annual school-community musical production that requires the talent of community members with many varied gifts. Lighting and sound technicians, musicians, stage hands, set, and costume designers are all people we don't necessarily think of when we think of a musical production but they are all just as important as the actors themselves. These shows bring people together, create friendships, and can be a great family activity. This season, Oliver! - the unforgettable tale of an orphan turned pickpocket, will be presented in three shows on November 7th, 8th, and 9th. Come and support the local talent, check out the show and who knows... next year it might be you in the spotlight!

Spencer's magic palace...
Where on this earth can you find the sights and sounds of Ecuador, England, and Russia all under the same roof? Well, it's the very same place that you can go back in time and hear music performed by artists long gone. It's also the same place that you will see the future of music and art. Where is this magical place you ask? Well, it's practically in your backyard! If you've never been there, the time has never been better to visit the LuCille Tack Center for the Arts in Spencer. Our upcoming season boasts such a diverse range of music and art that it is impossible not to find something you'll love! The young and the old alike will be thrilled by the Robert Baca Jazz Orchesta. With that signature Big Band sound, they will bring back the classics originally performed by jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie and Louis Armstrong. For the people who have always longed to travel the world, why not let the world come to you! Our Adventure Cinema Series will bring Russia, Italy and India to your doorstep. Maybe you miss the days of classic ragtime music and the tight harmonies of the barbershop quartets. "In the saloon & At the Barbershop" will be right up your alley with a local, award-winning chorus and ragtime pianist. Sometimes, we just need a little bit of quiet to observe nature and its many wonders. You can do that at the LuCille Tack Center too. Our art gallery will present many exhibits brought to you by local artists. Photography, oil paintings, watercolors, and origami are just a few of the many types of art created by artists from Marshfield, Wisconsin Rapids, and other towns in central Wisconsin. Viewing the art in the gallery is a great way to support the local talent. How about theatre? You won't be surprised to learn that we have that as well. Our local talent will be casted in two shows this season. "Oliver!" is an award-winning musical, and the classic "Little Red Riding Hood" will feature children from the community. What could possibly be cuter than small children dressed as forest animals?
