Young Artists Sought for Wildlife Art Contest at the LuCille Tack Center for the Arts Gallery
Calling all nature-lovers and artists! The LuCille Tack Center for the Arts in Spencer is excited to host a contest for area students to submit artwork for the January 2010 Young Artist's Wisconsin Wildlife Exhibit. Students in grades K-12 from Spencer and surrounding communities are encouraged to submit an original piece of artwork featuring a native Wisconsin animal or plant. This is a wonderful opportunity for your little Da Vinci to shine! Entries will be on display in the art gallery with the touring National Junior Duck Stamp Exhibit January 8 to 29, 2010. The contest is offered in conjunction with the Traveling Exhibit of the 2009 Wisconsin Junior Duck Stamp Contest. The Junior Duck Stamp Competition display visits over 20 locations throughout Wisconsin. This year's competition saw entries from 620 students in 53 schools across the state. The competition was a part of the effort to teach Wisconsin students about our wetlands, waterfowl, and the importance of the conservation of these natural resources.
The 2009 winner of Wisconsin's Best of Show in the Junior Duck Stamp contest was 17 year old Yvette Bauer from Richland Center. Bauer's acrylic entry of a pair of wood ducks competed for the title of Best of Show in the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Contest held at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum in Washington, D.C. in April of 2009 where she received an honorable mention ribbon.
The opening reception for this magnificent gallery display of our young, local talent, will be held on Friday, January 8, 5-7 p.m. At The LuCille Tack Center for the Arts in Spencer. Necedah Wildlife Refuge representative, Dan Peterson, will give a presentation at 6 p.m. Music will be provided by bass-keyboard duo, James Voss and Jim Rickard. Refreshments will also be served.
All entries must be received by Friday, December 18, 2009. Judging will take place during the week of December 27th. Students in grades K-12 from Spencer and surrounding communities are eligible. For additional information, please contact Deborah Janz, Executive Director, 659-4499 or visit the "Art Gallery" tab on our website, www.lucilletackcenter.com for entry form and contest rules.
